For many the opportunity to work with people less fortunate or to learn new skills they may not get another chance to learn in a gap year, is something they just cannot pass up. Gap year sports are amongst the most popular options for students looking for a gap year abroad. Martial arts in China, soccer coaching in Africa, surfing in South Africa or diving and working with marine life in South America are all possible and of course many many more.
So if you are looking at spending your gap years abroad, I have put together this list of the Top 5 sporting destinations
1) South America - A historic and beautiful area of the world with friendly locals. The marine life makes this an excellent choice for those wanting to spend their gap year abroad diving. Don\'t worry if you can\'t dive yet there are some of the best diving schools available to learn and maybe even teach others gap year sports.
2) China - experience the age and beauty of such a historical country while spending time on your gap years abroad learning the ancient traditions and art of Kung Fu from those who practice and live the life of the ancient kung fu masters.
3) South Africa - has much to offer you on your gap years abroad especially with gap year sports. Working with and teaching locals can be very fulfilling whether this is for Football, Rugby or perhaps surfing of some of the most fantastic surf you will find anywhere. For me though, the ultimate whilst on my gap year abroad would be teaching surfing to local un-privileged children, talk about rewarding.
4) Canada - Skiers and Snowboarders flock here as it boast some of the best extreme sports venues anywhere in the world. With gaurenteed weather and andrenaline, this have to be the ultimate extreme destination. If you are looking for the ultimate gap year sports, this has to be on your shortlist for your gap years abroad.
5) Australia - Australia Is the number one destination for Brits head out on gap years abroad, red hot sunshine, and the shear volume of gap year sports available make this the perfect destination. The most popular gap year sports are water sports, this is mainly down to the excellent weather Australia is blessed with, the long hot summers, an English speaking language make it a fav amongst us Brits.
Hopefully this will have given you an insight to just a few of the many gap year sports available if you are looking to spend your gap years abroad. But remember you are not restricted to just doing gap year sports you can volunteer, learn or teach new languages and many many more things.
